about

“The death of kari edwards was a shock to the poetry world in 2006. Poets mourned, poets gave thanks, and gathered to read kari’s poems. Michael Ball invited a group of us to Baltimore to share our love and grief at The Dionysus Lounge where kari had performed just a few months before suddenly leaving us behind on Earth. I was honored when Michael asked me to MC the event. He knew I was a friend and avid reader of kari’s work. The poet Gil Ott introduced me to kari in 1984 before kari’s transition, and I am happy to report that I do not remember kari’s name from 1984, but instead only remember kari, the kari of NO GENDER! Much love to kari’s partner Fran, and to all of kari’s many friends and admirers. And thanks to Justin Sirois for making this recording of the Baltimore memorial, and thanks to Ambrose Bye for making it available finally online. It was a tremendous honor to share space with kari for a little while on Earth.”
